Methodology

Exactly how your score is calculated. the model, the margins, and the limits. No black boxes.

The short version

Your raw score (correct answers, adjusted for question difficulty) is mapped to the standard IQ scale. mean 100, standard deviation 15. the same scale used by professionally administered tests. Your percentile is derived from that score. Every test length shows its accuracy margin openly: ±12 points for 10 questions, ±9 for 20, ±7 for 40.

Provisional norming, stated plainly

Our scoring model is provisional. It starts from a disclosed statistical mapping rather than a large norming sample, which is why we show wide, honest confidence intervals instead of pretending to a precision we don't have. As real attempts accumulate, the calibration keeps improving. and the margins we publish will tighten to reflect it.

Why we show the margin

Most free IQ tests give you a single number and let you believe it's exact. It isn't. not ours, not anyone's. A short online test is an estimate. Showing the margin (±12 / ±9 / ±7) is the honest way to report it, and it lets you choose the trade-off: the 10-question test is fast, the 40-question assessment is precise.

What the test measures

Four cognitive domains, each sampled equally at longer test lengths:

  • Spatial reasoning. visual patterns, rotations, matrices
  • Numerical reasoning. arithmetic, percentages, word problems
  • Logical reasoning. number and letter series, pattern completion
  • Verbal reasoning. analogies, classification, logical relationships

Limitations

  • This is a screening estimate, not a clinical assessment. It cannot diagnose anything.
  • Scores can vary with fatigue, distraction, and device. Take the test once, rested, for your best estimate.
  • Repeated attempts may inflate scores slightly as you learn the format. your first attempt is the most informative.
